Founded in London in 2025, CARMA is an independent bottler born from the shared passion of five whisky enthusiasts: Cem Tunçel, Al Onur Sozer, Ragıp Karamartin, Manuk Ayazian and Dr Ali Çimen.
Our primary goal was to bring a “Turkish touch” to the world of whisky. For our inaugural release, we decided to experiment with Boğazkere, one of Anatolia’s finest grapes known for its rich tannins. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Pamukkale Winery for their invaluable support in this endeavor.
Cem Tunçel curated our first four expressions, selecting four distinct Scottish single malts, to be finished with a Boğazkere influence; Macduff, Glen Elgin, Tamdhu and Balblair. Our very first bottling “Toiseach”, bottled on March 12, 2026, is an 18-year-old Macduff from the Highland/Speyside region. This single malt spent its final eight months maturing in a French oak cask that previously held Boğazkere red wine. We are delighted by the profound impact of the French oak and the tannin-rich wine —whose name literally translates to “throat burner” (Boğaz-kere)—and we couldn’t wait to share it with whisky enthusiasts. We are proud to make history by introducing the first-ever Turkish impact to whisky and with such a distinguished single malt.
At CARMA Whisky, we remain committed to excellence: all our whiskies will continue to be bottled unchill-filtered, with natural color, and at cask strength. Stay tuned for what’s next.
